This is part 7 of the 21 lunges. While reading the literature posted for this section I came across an interesting bit that may be useful for those volunteering for the e-REF webpage redesign project as sent today by Lynn Murdoch. The author refers to the need for libraries to GET VISUAL in order to reach their targeted audience with their web pages.

Social networking
There is a brief entry for Patricia Darwish on Facebook.
I invited my two daughters to become "my friends" for the duration of the 21 lunges. On reflection I don't think they'll be too pleased, judging by the way they protect their site for prying eyes. For good measure I also asked a staff member. I'll will try to tweak the site a bit more by adding a few features. By next posting it should look more furnished.

Wiki (part 2)
Into the Wiki "Picutres" I added:
Could it be an implement used in printing when computers didn't exist? Will we eventually get the answer?
In bold format and fuschia colour, simply for the exercise.
I also started a new page "Banned books" where I included 2 links to the ALA webpage and a picture of a banned book.
However the setting on the page is very akward due to the URLs lenghts. Is there a way to rearrange the display?

WIKI (part 1)
I have attempted to view Graig Anderson's wiki @
http://libraryplanning2008rmit.edu.au/index.php/Main_Page but keep getting an error message.
So I tried to post a comment on the 21 lunges wiki for the page titled: Swanston Library on Wikipedia. My comment is still there from yesterday but does not appear on the list: Showing all 17 pages — sort by [date|name].
Here is my comment:
I thought the link to the newspaper article was provided by clicking on [2]. Nothing happens, so I must be mistaken.
I clicked on "add comment", I copied the comment in the window then clicked again to no avail.
What am I doing wrong?

Podcasts
Well it feels so good to learn or discover new things, expecially when it comes to technology. I dont't think I'm a technophobe, just not wired up properly. This requires me to stretch my grey matter but it's fun when it eventually works. So today I subscribe to an ABC podcast:

My attempt to subsribe to an Italian course via Itunes was not successful. To be precise I can listen to the podcast but only by going to the Itunes site.
Carolina showed me that via the dashboard I have direct access to my google reader. Until now I logged on separately. Petrina suggested I put the 21 lunges in my favourite links, what a time saver! I just added Google and removed one which appeared out of nowhere sometimes ago.
That's 3 new things just for this morning!

RSS feeds (tout un programme)
Thank God for Petrina who clarified things a bit. I think I got the idea: a blog and and RSS feed aren't the same things. I'll chew on this while travelling slowly to the next step in the 21 lunges.
Petrina also showed me how to put a video clip in the blog. This alone makes me feel so much better. My blog looks just that little bit more sophisticated.

I am back
After a long absence I'm back. I think I have to start from scratch and hope to last the distance.
I would like to add links, photos and video as seen on some of the participants of 21 lunges. Will I manage this by the end of the programme?
I'll do my best and will pester the champions a fair bit in my quest.
